| Well, first of all, we are 19 days away from closing on our house. Yay! We are getting excited and the house is coming along great. They messed up and put the wrong baseboards in so we are getting two free ceiling fans out of the deal. Even though they are the wrong ones they still look nice so we are making out pretty good on that deal.
In other news, Ben is working like a mad man trying to qualify as an instructor. His qualification date was moved up two weeks so he basically has 2.5 (instead of 4.5) weeks to finish 5 exams. Yikes! So as a result he is working every day (including weekends) long hours of studying trying to get ready for his qualification date. Thankfully by November 17th he should be done with all tests and then he just has to prepare for his boards over the following two weeks and then will be a fully qualified instructor by December 3rd if all goes well. So that means we are about a month away from all the craziness being over finally. We can't wait!
I am staying busy myself. Assignments are coming due steadily now and I just started a new job one day a week which is fun. Plus we just got our field observation assignments so I have 30 hours of observations to complete over the next month. Good times to be had.
Last night we worked at the fall festival at our church and that was really fun. Ben and I worked the "clip the tail of the pony" station. So one of us was the pony and we ran around with a mop-head tied around our waist and the kids had to clip clothes pins on the mop. Pretty hilarious to watch, kind of an odd concept, but they seemed to really enjoy it.

| We have an official closing date, so if all goes well we will be closing on our house and will own it come November 19th. We are starting to get more and more excited as it is becoming more official that we are actually getting this house. It is going to be so much fun to own our own home and begin our life into together. It was a big decision, but it has been neat to see God provide and guide through each step.
In other news, I began my first week of half marathon training this past week and was looking forward to running a race in January, however it looks like I may have to push it back to the February date instead due to a tennis injury. Sunday night I was playing tennis with Ben and our friends Jenn and Cory. It was several hours of fun, but then as we were winding down I went for a hard ball to my left and rolled my ankle and it popped. So needless to say, I have a sprained ankle and won't be running for a few weeks. I am hoping it will be a semi quick recovery, but you just never know with pesky sprains, how they will heal. Oh well, eventually I will run a half marathon, in God's timing I guess.
| This past Friday we had our pre-drywall inspection and so now they will be starting the drywall by this Friday. That means that 30 days from this Friday we could potentially close on our home. We are hoping it will be closer to mid November or later simply because we don't want to have to pay as much by owning the house for the least amount of time in November. We technically have the base house through December so we are trying to limit our double payments as much as possible. It will be worth it regardless, but the less expensive the better.
Ben is staying super busy with work. The expectations on him have increased a bit lately so he is super stressed. So if you think about it please pray for him as he continues his training up process. He likes his job, but lately the stress has been a bit overwhelming and he has been overworking himself. He ended up having to work all day Saturday and then some on Sunday as well. Definitely not his preference, but he has to step things up a bit for the next couple of weeks.
I have been doing pretty well. I have enjoyed my classes, they aren't too hard, but the info is pretty interesting. Ben and I were talking just yesterday how the homesickness side of things is starting to set in a bit since we don't really know anyone. I realized it a lot this weekend because I didn't have anyone to hang out with when Ben was gone all weekend at work, where as if we were in OH I would have just called up a friend and been able to hang out. It's definitely been an adjustment. One positive thing is that we met a couple at church and will hopefully be going out to eat with them sometime in the next week. Plus we were able to hang out with some people from Ben's work this weekend which really made a feel like we were at least starting to connect. I know it is going to take time to get established here, but sometimes I just wish it would happen faster.
That's all folks! | | |
| So things have been super busy lately. I went out looking for houses for the first time last Friday with our realtor. I had been looking online for about a month and I had scoped out different areas, but this was the first time I actually went out and toured homes. I spent about 4 hours looking at homes and found several that were of interest and one that I absolutely loved. Friday night Ben and I went out to Subway and I explained to him all of what I had found and learned about what was available on the market. We confirmed the fact that the best choice for us was going to be to buy a brand new home. Through a long discussion, we chose 2 homes that we wanted to go back and look at on Saturday. The one I loved was farther away than the other option, but we still looked at both of them anyway. Most of the time we thought we were going to choose the closer option because we thought either choice would be good. But we went home and weighed out the pros and cons and decided that the house I absolutely loved the first was the house that we both absolutely loved was the one that would be our best choice. We sat down and figured out all the financial details and made the decision to go in and sign the contract on Sunday. We were super excited about the possibility of that being our new home! Then this past Wednesday we got our contract in the mail that said we were approved. So now we are just going to the motions to get the whole mortgage process underway, investigating insurance companies, and anxiously awaiting being able to move into our home sometime in November. Other than that, Ben's work is still going well and I am trying to stay busy with school. And we are running in a race to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation of SC tomorrow. So I am excited about that too. | | |
| So we have officially been in SC for about a month and a half. I like it down here, ALOT and it is really cool because Ben works just 2 miles down the road and gets to come home on lunch breaks and spend time with me.
When we first got down here we had 3 weeks of Ben's leave time to get the house all unpacked and relax before he started work on August 17th. He really likes his job a lot, he pretty much never knows what each day will hold. Right now he is training up to be an instructor. He has to go through 4 months of testing and then by Christmas he will be a qualified instructor. We have decided that we really like the military community a lot. There is a lot of respect for one another and the people we have met so far are really cool. I even got to go to an orientation for military wives which gave me a bit of a peek into the specifics of military life. It was kinda funny cuz I was the oldest there since Ben is a direct input officer right out of college. Usually newbies start a enlisted and are super young, so therefore their wives are as well.
I have been staying fairly busy with school. I am taking 4 grad courses right now. 3 in class and 1 online. I like the courses so far, but it is a lot of reading. I am very thankful for the reading though in a way I guess because it gives me something to do throughout the day. At first I was hard core looking for a job, but at this point I am not sure that I could get all the reading done, go to classes, and still have time for spending with Ben. So at this point, if the perfect part time job comes along, I will snag it (and I am still looking), but I am in no rush to find one and make myself super busy.
We have been having fun on the weekends exploring and spending time with new/old friends. Several weekends we have gone over and spend the morning at the beach on saturdays, running and boogie boarding. (and getting some sun, sometimes too much). It has been really nice to have the beach so close because it is almost like you get to go on vacation for a bit every time you go, it is super peaceful. We have also gone to the dog park with the pups and they love it. (definitely a place we will be hitting up more often) It has been nice to get to know some of Ben's NAVY buddies too. We have spend a few nights hanging out with them and getting to know them.
A big prayer request right now it that we can find the right church for us. We have visited several, only really being impressed by 2 of them. It has been hard to find churches that have sound doctrine and biblical teaching. The past two Sundays we have gone to a church called Northwoods Baptist and we have really liked it so far. The pastor is very good and they actually have a bible study class for our age group (a hard find we have discovered). We are going to continue to visit Northwoods and pray about where God would lead us. We want to had a church that we can get plugged into, but we also want to make sure it is where God wants us. Plus it is super hard not to compare to DABC which we really enjoyed a lot in OH.
Well its time for pizza and a movie. A little more R and R before the new week begins.
